The Foundation of Limestone County has had a decades-long relationship with the Dekko Foundation (formally known as a Youth Pod in our area). For several years, the Youth Pod has been known in our area schools as TRAIL, which is an acronym for “Together Renewing and Improving Limestone.” The Dekko Foundation invests in Youth Pods, like TRAIL, so teens can use their ideas to learn about philanthropy by applying their ideas in meaningful areas for them and their peers. TRAIL is a training ground where teens allocate their time, talent, and treasure with a yearly grant they submit to the Dekko Foundation. Through responsive grant making, teens learn to be flexible, respect other people’s opinions, and be considerate of others’ feelings. By participating in community service, teens learn to be responsible, gain experience with event planning, and view their community through a broader and more mature lens. TRAIL members use their resources to initiate community change. The goal is to teach our young people how to give back and invest in their local communities to make them better places to live for everyone. The Foundation of Limestone County is grateful to work with the students and their sponsors to enhance and support Limestone County and looks forward to many years of collaboration.
